Big Toes and Rainbows

DAY 4 on the Road to Yellowknife:
Lévis, QC to Val d'Or, QC (764 km) Running total:  1758.5 km

This morning, had a leisurely morning and a great breakfast (man, can Little "A" eat eggies!), and set off, heading towards northern Québec.

The girls have really adjusted to life on the road!
The girls got these sweet magnet story boards from their super-great aunts Nini and Lala before they left, and I brought them out this morning.
Little "A" loves hers, and played with it several times today.
Little "G" loves hers too, and is very serious about setting up the scenes accurately.

From Lévis, we skimmed Québec City and kissed the north part of Montréal, and headed to the beautiful mountains in Québec.

The girls loved seeing the green ski trails, and imagining snow on them.

They both want snowboards, now.
We stopped at a great picnic stop along the highway near a meadow.
The girls had a chance to stretch their legs...

... and so did Twofour.  He loves the fresh grass!
The girls followed bugs around and explored.
And got a cool treat!

We had some very comical commentary from Little "G"'s chair in the back seat today.

At one point, she dozed off for a good nap, and woke suddenly about 45 minutes into it to say,

"Daddy, is it alright? Is it all clear?"

Once he said, "Yes," she was OUT for another 45 minutes.

Later, I caught her using Blanken (her very well-loved knitted blanket who is really looking like a dilapidated ball of yarn) to measure things... her feet, her legs, her arms, the DVD screen, the window, books... anything she could reach.

Several hours later, she gasped, "Mommy!  It grew!!"

I asked her what she was noticing.

And she held up her bare foot.

"It grew!  My foot is bigger than before!  Yay!!"

Hey, whatever works for you, girlie.

This was not over: about half an hour later she was marvelling over the size of her  growing toe.

Eli assured her that everyone yearns for big toes.

Yes.  Everyone.

Because of the surprise and coordinated double nap this afternoon, Eli and I decided to keep on driving past our originally planned stop for the day (Mont Laurier) and continued to Val d'Or.

Eli spotted this great lake-side picnic place for a supper break.
Little "G" tried to convince Eli to take a boat and take her fishing (with no fishing rod).
It had a great view!
And two really cute girls.
Who were still a little sleepy from the naps (and time change)

Towards the end of the driving day, we saw a double and very wide rainbow in the northern sky.

It was pretty spectacular and quite a treat for my rainbow-loving girls.

We were driving, and I couldn't get a good picture, though.

As we pulled into our hotel for the night (with a sweet suite, I might add), Little "G" noticed that there was a boat place next door, and she said,

"Good for you Daddy!  A boat place.  You're a big boy now so you can get ONE boat, but only one.  OK?"

She wanted to help him buy a boat right then and there...
